アメリカ大統領就任前の独立戦争末期での士官たちへのスピーチ。

その時、ワシントンは独立軍総司令官。

スピーチをしても士官たちは給料の延滞で聞く耳を持たなかった。

そこでリンカーンは、スピーチをやめメガネを取り出し言いました。

｢国への奉仕で髪の毛も白くなり、目も見にくくなった」

この言葉で、士官たちは聞く耳を持ったそうです。
